About The Tour

A Seven Rhinos Curated Photography Expedition

Experience three of Kenya’s distinctive wildlife ecosystems on a journey created specifically around photography, light, animal behaviour and time in the field.

From photographing elephants beneath Mount Kilimanjaro in Amboseli to spending three dedicated safari days with the predators and wildlife of the Masai Mara, this expedition is designed to provide photographers with varied opportunities rather than a conventional sightseeing safari.

The journey concludes at Lake Naivasha, where our focus shifts to birds, water-based photography and the beautiful Rift Valley environment.

With a maximum of 6 participants and 2 photography mentors, our group will travel in two dedicated 4×4 Land Cruiser safari vehicles, giving photographers more room for equipment and better positioning in the field.

  • NAIROBI → AMBOSELI
Our Kenya photography expedition begins in Nairobi. After meeting the Seven Rhinos team, we travel by road towards the Amboseli ecosystem and check in at Osero Sopia Mt. Kili Retreat. Depending on our arrival time and available light, we begin our first exploration of the area. Amboseli provides one of Africa's most recognizable photographic settings: elephants and other wildlife moving through open landscapes with Mount Kilimanjaro forming a spectacular backdrop when conditions are clear. Photography Focus Elephants • Environmental portraits • Landscapes • Golden light • Birds • Kilimanjaro compositions Overnight: Osero Sopia Mt. Kili Retreat Meals: Full Board
  • AMBOSELI PHOTOGRAPHY SAFARI
Today is dedicated to photographing the Amboseli ecosystem. We begin around the best morning light and concentrate on elephants, including family groups and large tuskers whenever opportunities arise. Amboseli is particularly suited to environmental wildlife photography. Instead of filling every frame with the animal, we will also work on compositions incorporating the surrounding landscape. When conditions permit, we look for wildlife positioned against Mount Kilimanjaro. Later in the day, changing light may provide opportunities for silhouettes, dust, backlighting and more experimental images. Photography Focus Elephant families • Large tuskers • Mount Kilimanjaro • Backlight • Dust • Silhouettes • Environmental wildlife • Birds • Creative compositions Overnight: Osero Sopia Mt. Kili Retreat Meals: Full Board
We have another morning opportunity in the Amboseli area before transferring to the airstrip. Rather than spending most of the day driving between Amboseli and the Mara, we take a domestic flight from Amboseli to the Masai Mara. On arrival, our safari vehicles and local team meet us for the transfer to Osero Sopia River Camp, which will be our home for the next four nights. Depending on flight timings and conditions, we begin exploring the Mara ecosystem. Photography Focus Final Amboseli opportunities • Aerial views • First Mara wildlife encounters • Evening light • Environmental photography Overnight: Osero Sopia River Camp Meals: Full Board
Our first complete photography day in the Masai Mara. With two exclusive 4×4 Land Cruisers for our group of eight, we have greater flexibility for photographers, equipment and shooting positions. Our guides search for lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, antelopes and the remarkable birdlife of the Mara ecosystem. The emphasis is not simply on finding as many animals as possible. When we encounter a strong photographic situation, we aim to spend time observing behaviour, anticipating action and waiting for the combination of subject, background and light. Photography Focus Lions • Leopards • Cheetahs • Animal behaviour • Action • Portraits • Low-angle perspectives • Environmental wildlife • Backlight Overnight: Osero Sopia River Camp Meals: Full Board
Another complete day is dedicated to the Mara. Wildlife photography often rewards patience, so our plans remain flexible according to predator movements, sightings, weather and light. If we locate interesting animal behaviour, we can stay with the subject rather than moving on simply to complete a checklist of species. Morning and evening sessions provide opportunities to experiment with different approaches to light and composition. Photography Focus Predators • Behaviour • Storytelling • Backlighting • High-key • Low-key • Panning • Motion • Silhouettes • Creative compositions Overnight: Osero Sopia River Camp Meals: Full Board
MASAI MARA – SAFARI + WALKING EXPERIENCE + UNDERGROUND NIGHT HIDE Our third dedicated Mara photography day offers another opportunity to search for wildlife and work on images we may not yet have achieved. Later, we experience a different side of the ecosystem with an evening walking safari within the Osero Sopia Conservancy. One of the special photographic experiences of this expedition is our session at the Osero Sopia Conservancy Underground Night Hide. The hide provides a low-level perspective and the possibility of observing and photographing wildlife after dark. Because this is a natural wildlife experience, the species and activity at the hide will depend entirely on animal movement on the night. Photography Focus Low-level wildlife • Night photography • Animal behaviour • Creative lighting • Wide-angle possibilities • Environmental images • Experimental compositions Overnight: Osero Sopia River Camp Meals: Full Board
MASAI MARA → LAKE NAIVASHA After breakfast, we leave the Masai Mara and travel by road towards Lake Naivasha. We check in at Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge. Our Naivasha experience includes a boat safari, providing a completely different style of photography from the previous days. From the boat we look for water birds and other wildlife associated with the lake ecosystem. Naivasha can provide excellent opportunities for photographing African fish eagles, pelicans and other water birds, including birds in flight and reflections on the lake. Photography Focus African fish eagles • Pelicans • Water birds • Birds in flight • Hippos • Reflections • Environmental compositions Overnight: Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge Meals: Full Board
LAKE NAIVASHA → NAIROBI We enjoy our final morning at Lake Naivasha before beginning our road journey back to Nairobi. Our Seven Rhinos expedition concludes after eight days covering three very different Kenyan environments — Amboseli, Masai Mara and Lake Naivasha. Participants can connect with their onward international flights according to their individual travel arrangements. OPTIONAL EXTRA NIGHT IN NAIROBI For participants whose international flight schedule requires an additional overnight stay, we can arrange one night at a hotel near Nairobi Airport on 17 February 2027. Optional hotel cost: USD 120 per person on twin-sharing basis Check-out: 18 February 2027 The optional Nairobi hotel night is not included in the USD 3,450 expedition price.
